Introversion Software releases its amazing PC videogame title, Darwinia, which combines challenging action movements with strategic battle planning. Darwinia is a PC videogame that features a marvelous intuitive control mechanism, a graphical style copied from 80's retro classics, and a story about a tribe of video game sprites locked up in a modern 3D game world.
Darwinia is a virtual theme park that is brained by Dr. Sepulveda made out of malfunctioning Protologic 68000s. The Protologic 68000s is a computer machine that once tried to conquer the system when the computer age started but it failed miserably. Dr. Sepulveda went into seclusion and it was during this time that he stumbled upon quantum computing which lead to the creation of a new type of Artificial Intelligence he baptisized Darwinians because they learned, grew, and adapted with each new generation. The action and retro gaming come from placing squad programs onto the field and taking control over them. At that point, it's almost like a game of Centipede on 'roids. When in control of a squad, you'll actually have to aim and fire both lasers and secondary weapons at any enemy viruses to clear a safe path for your people.
The virus creatures are anything from single wormlike creatures that hug the ground to much larger centipede and flying centipedes that attack at will. Both spiders and spore generators drop eggs which the virus will try to fertilize with lost Darwinian souls.
The music and sound effects in Darwinia fit the theme perfectly. The soundtrack runs the variety from catchy 8-bit tunes to subdued piano arrangements, and each song cues at just the right time. The only disappointment is that the music is only present during the intros.
For you to play Darwinia, your PC must require a Windows 98, 2000, XP / Linux Suse 9.1, Debian/Sarge and Debian/Sid, Redhat 9.0 or later. 600MHZ processor (1.6GHZ processor recommended) 128MB RAM (256MB RAM recommended)
