LIONEL TRAINS ON TRACK
Monday Feb 5, 2007.

On Track and coming your way... Lionel Trains On Track is a video game released for the Nintendo DS on December 14, 2006. Game players are the head of an unspecified railroad, having for objective to connect different cities together through rail, using the funds you start off with, and later earn.

Lionel Trains On Track is a single strategy videogame where almos newby video game developer Destination Softwares joined publisher Black Lantern Studio. In the video game there is a campaign mode, sandbox mode and free play mode to tinker around with, but Lionel Tracks feels like a barren wasteland with not much going on.

The campaign mode allows you to build the train lines towards meeting specific goals that are set within the scenario. The free play mode will give you the freedom to do whatever you want with your trains and railroads. The sandbox mode is the exact same thing but without ever having to earn money to build what your heart desires.

The puzzles are fun and there is a pretty good variety of Lionel trains to choose from. There are unlockable trains and items in the game, but there’s not much here in the replay variety. The decisions you’ll have to make within the game have to do with cargo types, the supply and demand of the cities, and creating the links between cities to bring the cargo to the appropriate cities.

The graphics are generic, as basic as it gets, dull to the bone of the beast, but the game is less about graphics and more about the simulation aspect. Green is grass, tracks look like tracks, trains tool along them and blue stuff is water.

The audio isn't that exciting. Your train may toot its whistle as it leaves the station and there is some music but it’s quite forgettable.

Video Game Features:

  • Multiple play modes including Free Play mode, Sandbox mode, and Campaing mode.

  • Purchase, place, control, and profit from twelve different Lionel Trains.

  • Place your tracks directly on the terrain using the using the unique DS stylus and touch screen.

  • Watch cities grow as you bring goods back and forth using player created track and player purchased trains.
