Video game publisher Electronic Arts and its developer branch Tiburon bring force to the PS2 platform by the hand of sports video game Madden NFL 06. This 2006 edition of the football series features a brand new passing game in the Quarterback Vision Control system.
Despite those faults, however, Madden NFL 06 is still a fantastic game, just not as much fun to play as it has been the last few years. This was bound to happen with how well it's been consistently improving over time.
The QB Vision and Precision Passing concepts, the biggest change of 2006, are hit or miss in this way. Some players will love it, and some will loathe it. But what these two features do is require the offensive user to utilize a cone representing the quarterback's vision, or line of sight, when throwing to a receiver.
Great new passing system; incredibly detailed controls; Superstar adds detail to create a player mode. Dense controls can be intimidating; Off-field superstar action is drab; AI is still only average.
Taken all together, the proliferation of commands is supremely daunting. Changing a hot route, reacting to the defensive line, and selecting a receiver to follow with the cone of vision can be a matter of a dozen button presses, all before the snap.
New players -- or anyone not truly dedicated to the game -- may become completely lost with all the options. After the snap, most of the screen will be slightly grayed out, with a clear cone of vision representing what the quarterback is able to see.
