ÜberSoldier – Undead German Soldiers – is an intriguing and dismal first shooter PC game sci-fi version of World War II. Developer CDV created a PC game that put players in the shoes of an undead German officer seeking revenge on the evil scientists who turned him this way.
PC game ÜberSoldier plot comes after the Nazis who are testing with genetics aim at building an army of zombies that also happens to include your soldier. This character (yours) is a German officer who is murdered on an assignment. Nevertheless – call this a karma –, your officer’s body is recovered and turned over to an alienated, bloodily mad Nazi scientist who, at the painly end, brings you back to the war as part of the upcoming zombie militia – big problem is, you retain your memory and desire nothing but revenge.
Players – and your dead officer, of course – have to go along 12 levels, which is about the standard length for a FPS campaign. And make no mistake of thinking that your soldier is unbeatable because he returned from the grave; that is why CDV put in the PC game a standard array of weapons to combat with, including knife, flamethrower, pistols, rifles, sniper rifles, and machine guns.
Well, we cannot deny the great chances, and abilities your German officer came with after passing from the death line, i.e. some mental powers that you can draw upon to squash enemies without scruples. These powers are fueled by rage, and you accumulate rage by accomplishing special tasks, such as shooting three bad guys in the head (such as a telekinetic shield that can temporarily deflect incoming bullets).
The graphics engine itself looks fairly modern and up-to-date, and there are plenty of shader effects at work.
There won't be any multiplayer capability in ÜberSoldier, mainly because there wasn't enough time to create and test one properly.
ÜberSoldier is expected to ship the market on March 31, 2006.
