Xbox video game Vexx developed by Aclaim Austi. Vexx is not exactly a “story driven”, after the initial cut-scene at the beginning of the game that sets up the plot it’s pretty much straight-up action from there on out.
This is a very enjoyable video game. The controls are quite easy to get used to, but the general enemies pose little threat to your survival.
The storyline of Vexx, similar to other platform games, revolves around an unlikely hero out to destroy an evil enemy. Vexx is a midget-ey fellow that revolts against his demon masters and ends up getting his grandfather killed by the evil magician Dark Yabu. In fact, Xbox gives you the chance for you to be Vexx.
Out to save the soul of his grandfather captured by the demon, Vexx runs into the power talons that attach to his arms. As he heads out to complete his mission, Vexx must collect Wraithhearts to open portals leading to his grandfather.
As you collects these Wraithhearts, you’ll notice the video game focuses more on platform gameplay elements than fighting ability. Each level is designed to host a number of quests leading to wraithhearts, each guarded by an out-of-reach location, a boss monster fight, or a puzzle. To unlock the next level, you'll need to collect a specific number of wraith hearts.
The graphics are more of a mixed bag with aspects that look decent and others that could have been better. The explosion effects, the lighting effects, and overall texturing were quite beautiful. All of the characters are highly detailed, and the world's environments are lush and teeming with life. Enemy variation for instance is limited but extra effort was obviously spend detailing out the different worlds.
A lack of sound effects make the audio quite not fare. The sound design in Vexx is uniformly weird and minimalist. Vexx himself doesn't talk much, keeping his self-expression limited to a handful of grunts and hups.
