YGGDRA UNION
Monday Dec 18, 2006.

Gameboy Advanced (GBA) has never experienced such a dope-looking combat system until the arrival of Yggdra Union this year. Be part of Fantasinia royalty fighting back their besieged home.

Yggdra Union is a strategy/RPG card based game which allows you to engage in fantasy styled tactical battles. Featuring a fantastic gameplay, Yggdra relates the adventure of a princess Yggdra determined to defend Fantasinia and her family from Bronkia's Imperial Army. The princess will use the help of the leader of a band of thieves leader, named Milanor. Right after, some of the Yggdra military will join them.

Bronkia's Imperial Army, led by the hand of evil emperor Gulcasa, cuts a bloody swath through the people of Fantasinia and the Royal Armies of King Ordeene. You see the tactical map on your GBA from a bird's-eye view, but when units engage in battle, the scene switches to a dynamic side view in which combat between opposing armies is resolved.

This lengthy video game is divided up into a series of chapters, each containing multiple battles that you must successfully complete. Yggdra comes alive in the GBA by manga artist Satoko Kiyuzuki and card design by Sunabo Tobe. The "Union" part of the game title comes into play when you initiate an attack; although you can initiate an attack only once per turn.

Combat against Bronkia's leader with the different weapons this GBA video game has placed asuse weapons like swords, spears, and axes, as well as bows, magic spells, and a variety of special abilities. Different unit types include your various fantasy mainstays, though Yggdra Union has a fairly distinctive anime art style that gives this game an exciting, attractive look.

Yet, a particular weirdness of this video game is its lack of gaining-points or health for your armour units. What they have is called morale, and when loosing a fight, they lose morale as well. Perhaps, another lack of thriving fun most be the pacing; Yggdra video game is quite slow to play.

But aside of the colourful anime graphics and nicely animated combat sequences, there are some catchy musical melodies and convincing digitized sounds of combat. Each character has their own distinct battle music and sound effects are crisp.
